I’ve always believed that as a Pastor, you pastor two churches…the one that is and the one that is not yet. An organization is the same … the one that is, and the one that is ‘not yet’. That’s where vision is born, in the ‘not yet’.
I believe that the SoCal Network vision will become a reality by the very simple but powerful dual strategy of planting new churches and leading our existing churches to spiritual health and numerical growth.
With over 25 million people in Southern California, approximately 16 million do not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This is our target audience made up of people here in Southern California that come from around the world, no matter their age, socio-economic standing, education, ethnicity or language.
The most effective means of sharing the love of Jesus with this target audience is church planting. This works because the planting team can tailor the church to the individual people group or neighborhood God has called them to reach. Having a church in their own culture or community makes an attractive and relatively easier bridge for unchurched people to enter into the family of God.
The second part of the SoCal Network Vision is to lead existing churches to spiritual health and numerical growth.
What is a healthy church? It is one that is having a tangible impact on its community. It is one that is marked by new commitments to follow Jesus and water baptisms each year. A healthy church has a balance of new believers, those already committed to Christ, and those not yet convinced. It is a church moving forward to multiple sites and campuses, and has a passion for missions.
There are effective resources that are available to move churches toward spiritual health and numerical growth that include the SoCal Network School of Ministry, Leadership Summits, Activate Conference, Acts 2 Journey, Church Boom and Coaching – but most importantly, the presence and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
I pray that God empowers us with His Spirit to make an impact on both the churched and unchurched in our communities and around the world.
